Day 3 Made For Me :)

Today has been my favorite day so far. This morning we were dropped off in San Marcos and went on a Spanish scavenger hunt. All the clues were in Spanish and the people talked in Spanish every time we asked for help. We also learned about the Mission Lazarus' elementary school in San Marcos. The school has 4 teachers and about 40 students in the morning and 50 in the afternoon (around 100 total). The kids had some free time while we were there so we played soccer and tried to talk to them. It was so much fun learning about them and they were so patient with is when we made mistakes. We also toured La Iglesia de San Marcos that has 160 members. Seth then proceeded to teach us a popular Church of Christ song about how the people praise God by singing and praying. In the afternoon, we toured the Bodega (ML's main warehouse), the office building and one of the leather/wood vocation schools. It was fun to learn about the wood shop because ACU donated most of their power tools.

Day 1 Gone and Done

Today started early, I mean real early. I left  my aunts house at 3:30 am cuz my flight flew outta Dallas at 5:45. I couldn't get my boarding pass from the self check out, found out that my luggage was over weight, and then forgot that my pocket knife was in my carry on after I ckecked my bag through. By the time I get through security my flight was already boarding! Let's just say it was a rough start, but God was there with me through the whole ordeal... Everyone was patient and kind to me and Rebekah (another intern) was on the same flight as I was so she watched my stuff as I dealt with the knife problem. Once we land in Miami, Rebekah and I found this little cafe that served cortados and empanadas!!!! Of course, it wasn't as good as the stuff in Uruguay, but it was still pretty exciting :) As we are about to board, Erin and Steven** (also interns) pop outta nowhere. Come to find out, most of the interns are on our flight. By the end of this last plane ride, I'm ready to finally land in Honduras. We get there, sweat throught customs and find our ride. Before we leave, we grab some McDonalds and then hit the road. I think it took us about 5hrs to finally reach Mission Lazarus. It feels so surreal being here! Tonight was a little awkward but also very good. All the interns were nice and it's interesting getting to know them. Now all I have to do is remember their names lol. Tonight we ended our hangout time on what I'm gonna call the big rock for the rest of the summer. It was fun to look at the stars and talk and sing. The longer we stayed out there the longer we seemed to be more comfortable with each other. One of the girls pointed out that her goal for this summer was to create a community with each other. All of us agreed that this is important and vital for us to survive and thrive here. If you don't mind lifting my teammates and I in prayer, we would very much appreciate it.
